The new Scottish Parliament building was officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen on Saturday the 9th of October 2004. Members of the public have been able to visit the Parliament since the end of October 2004.
The Scottish Parliament was first formed in June 1999 after a successful devolution referendum campaign was won by the late Donald Dewar.
Since then, The Scottish Parliament has made great achievements, including abolishing up front tuition fees for students, free personal care for the elderly, guaranteeing a nursing place for every three and four year old and free bus passes for pensioners.
There are 129 Members of The Scottish Parliament (MSP's) and they have decisions and devolved powers over issues such as education, health, crime, transport and the environment.
